Thang Long Art Gallery

“Thang Long” is the former name of Hanoi, chosen by Emperor Ly Thai To, the first ruler of the Ly Dynasty, as the ancient capital of Vietnam in the year 1010. “Thang” (昇) means Ascending and “Long” (龍) means Dragon. The name carries in itself a thousand years of history and culture of Vietnam’s capital city.

At Thang Long Art, we strive to preserve Vietnam’s cultural heritage. Through art, we and our artists celebrate the beauty, values, and people of Vietnam.

Founded in 1996 and nestled within the historic confines of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, we stand as one of the most prominent and longest-established art galleries in Vietnam. Known locally for promoting Vietnamese art and fostering artistic talent and cultural exchanges, our mission is to cultivate creative dialogue, celebrate diversity, and provide a platform for artists and art enthusiasts to connect.

We are also one of the largest galleries in the capital, spanning over 520m2 (5,600 sqft), showcasing a diverse range of Vietnamese art – from the post-French-colonial era (Hậu Đông Dương) to post-1986 Vietnam’s Renovation period (Đổi Mới), through to Contemporary.

Handpicked among the respected galleries around the world to attend the prestigious annual "Asian Art in London" event, Thang Long Art is honoured to have exhibited at Sotherby’s and Bonhams London in 2024 and 2025.

Over the last three decades, we have built strong relationships and developed together with many leading established artists in Vietnam, such as Hong Viet Dung, Dang Xuan Hoa, from the “The Gang of Five” group, Bui Huu Hung from “Avant-Garde” and many other well-known artists such as Thanh Chuong, Le Thiet Cuong, Thanh Binh, Ngo Van Sac, Ly Tran Quynh Giang, Vu Thu Hien etc.

We have on display artworks that are increasingly rare and exclusive from master artists such as Vu Duy Nghia (1935-2022, To Ngoc Van’s class 1955-1957), Phung Pham (b.1932) and Nguyen Trung (b.1940).

Thang Long Art also supports and promotes emerging artists with exhibitions held in Vietnam, the UK, Japan, Singapore, UAE (Dubai), etc.

We are extremely honoured to have greeted various international diplomats, state figures, and monarchs, especially the Queen of Norway, Malaysian royals. Most recently, our Founder and artist Ngo Van Sac welcomed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to our gallery during his official visit to Vietnam in 2022.

During the LUXUO ASIA AWARDS 2025, themed “VIETNAM LEGACY ARISE,” Thang Long Art Gallery was awarded the title of “Best International Gallery Of The Year” in the “Luxurious Lifestyle” category.

This category not only honors sophisticated values but also acknowledges the lasting contributions to contemporary Vietnamese culture, aesthetics, and art. Thang Long Art Gallery exemplifies this ethos. In 2025, Thang Long Art Gallery distinguished itself through a range of international initiatives focused on promoting Vietnamese art. The gallery hosted a solo exhibition featuring artist Ngo Van Sac, who subsequently earned a nomination for the Asian Art Modern & Contemporary Award at the 28th Asian Art in London. During this event, Thang Long Art Gallery showcased the exhibition "Vietnam - Enchanting Beauty" at Sotheby's London, highlighting works from various esteemed Vietnamese artists. Additionally, the gallery engaged in discussions about cultural preservation in contemporary art and partnered with Arts of Asia magazine to present lacquer paintings by artist Phung Pham to global collectors, reinforcing its position as a conduit for Vietnamese art on the world stage.

The accolade at the LUXUO ASIA AWARDS 2025 marks a significant achievement, recognizing Thang Long Art Gallery's unwavering commitment to preserving, promoting, and enhancing the value of Vietnamese art internationally.
